My 2020 Windward Annual Camapign Fundraising Page

Wendy Hanna

I have been a member of the Windward YMCA for 9 years. I am also the vice chair of the Windward YMCA board of directors, co-chair of the Togetherhood committee, a member of the garden club, and a monthly volunteer of the Houseless Service Care Event. I work out at the Y 6 days a week, and participate in a variety of classes. I spend a great deal of time at the Y and feel fortunate that my husband and I can afford to belong to this organization when so many others cannot.

During my 9 years of membership, I have made many wonderful friends, both members and staff. Those friends supported me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and helped me remain optimistic during the surgery and radiation treatments that followed. There were there for me in 2015 when I had knee surgery and when I suffered a back injury in 2017. Last year when I was diagnosed with a heart condition those same friends worried about me, watched over me in class, and prayed for me to get better. When I had heart surgery in May, 2019 they called me, texted me, messaged me, and welcomed me back to the Y one week post surgery. I'm not sharing this information because I want sympathy for my medical issues, but because I have no doubt that the love and concern shown to me by the members and staff was instrumental in my recoveries. Without their support, I'm not sure I would be here today sharing my story.

The Y is so much more than a gym. It is filled with love and laughter on a daily basis. It is giggling children and happy seniors and teenagers who take the time to interact with both. But most of all, it is a magical place filled with a profound joy for life.

Please help me support the YMCA by making a contribution to my fundraiser. All of the money raised is paid out in the form of scholarships providing children with swim lessons, attendance at day camp, and families and seniors with membership dues, as well as helping to fund community service events such as the Togetherhood Ulupo Heiau Community Service Project and the Houseless Service Care event. Please feel free to share this page with your family and friends. Every dollar raised will give others the opportunity to experience all the Windward YMCA has to offer and could change someone's life! I know this to be a fact, because it has certainly changed mine! Additionally, you can ask me how you can get involved too. Together, we can make a difference!
